The runner is of 8 adjustable blades. The blades, with a hydraulic shape optimized by CFD studies at the INPG (refer to partners) in Grenoble have the specificity of being able to close on themselves to enable cutting off the flow, enabling autonomous stopping of the turbine.
In addition to the improvement in performances and the capacity to cut off the flow in total closure, the CFD studies have also enabled optimizing the fish friendly property of the turbine.
This self-supporting structure provides the assembly with a sufficient stiffness, which enables it to be installed in a single operation or to be lifted up to the maintenance position by pivoting around its upper bearings.
